GONZO Webinar! Miss at your peril...State of the Art gardening

Acantholimon trojanum

Arguably the best Acantholimon for just about anywhere (it thrives in Vail, Colorado; Victoria, British Columbia and [most importantly for me] in Denver, Colorado. I believe it will grow for you too! (click here if you're as nuts about spikethrifts as I am!)

Is there a more vivid demonstration of the power of Crevice Gardening: the young Paul Spriggs was charming enough in a sort of Hobbit fashion, but just look what publishing a best-selling book can do for you? Paul grows Acantholimon trojanum like a WEED--not to mention no end of saxifrages, eriogonums, rhododendrons--you name it. He is a master builder of countless gardens of all kinds--but this will be the first look into his private gem..see below...

Just one glimpse of Paul's home rock garden: there are more--enough to knock your socks off~!

When you're this photogenic, we'd be crazy not to show a few more pictures of this handsome dude! Rock gardening is incredibly lucky to have him as champion. If you've never heard him, NOW is the time...if you HAVE heard him, you'll want to do so again (he is always fresh in what he presents. Don't be fooled by his good looks--Paul Spriggs has extraordinary depth of experience, knowledge and best of all a passion for plants and nature that is second to none).

Adam Black

If you do not know Adam Black, it is time for you to come out from your cave or clammy rock where you've been hiding.  I regard Adam as America's premier field botanist--not only because he's seen every dang plant I've never even heard of, but photographed it stunningly and shared information about it in a variety of media. Adam is curator associated with Bartlett Arboretum in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Tony Avent

I feel pretty confident in saying Tony Avent is America's greatest plantsman: I know no other person who has grown a wider spectrum of species of plants, introduced more novel plants to horticulture, and has a deeper and wider knowledge of horticulture--not just herbaceous and woody, but the actual culture of what plants need to grow. The glossy Plant Delights catalog belies the vastness and depth of what is contained in Juniper Level Botanic Gardens--which contains more plants new to culture than any botanic garden in North America I can think of. Tony's artistry in his shade gardens is breathtaking: he will share some of the best woodland plants he's grown. I am quite sure you will not know most of them!

Cremastra-appendiculata

Hemiboea subacaulis (Jiangxii-Bells)

Silene laciniata
This will turn up in one of the talks...watch to see which one!

Edraianthus pumilio

One of innumerable alpine gems growing in an extraordinary garden in Goshen, Connecticut...

A corner of what may be the most ambitious private rock garden in North America. The product of the combined talents of a wonderfully matched couple...

Rod Zander (on the left) is a master stone mason, rock jockey and more who's aided and abetted the unfathomable plant ambitions of Elisabeth (past president of NARGS and our webmaster!): both have traveled the world studying rocks and plants. Elisabeth has a deep, half-century's experience in all facets of gardening which are combining with Rod's talents into a gem of rock garden artistry: they will be sharing their secrets in the final talk.

 Nivenia binata
This extraordinary woody irid will be making an appearance next Saturday. I hope you will too!
